Walkin Chiller pipe line Connection
Hello,
I am working as a resident Engineer in one of the main Hotel in Dubai
Our cold room in main kitchen have 32 walk-in chiller, freezer and cooler
These chillers are frequently tripped due to the high pressure alarm in compressor
Building chilled water circuit line is using for the heat transfer in condenser section
We found that building chilled water supply line is connected to ten chiller circuit suction line and all these chiller's discharge line is also connected to the building chilled water supply line.
It means all chillers suction and discharge of condenser line is connected to the building chilled water supply line, there is an inline pump is also connected between the chiller discharge line and building chilled water line.
Discharge line of the the chiller condenser is not connected to the building chilled water return lin
could anyone please clarify that the pipe line connection is correct or wrong?
Please check the attachment for better understanding....
Thanks

Re: Walkin Chiller pipe line Connection
Hi, ratheep
welcome to RE forums ....
you must be patient ... it is not necessary to post the same article in multiple threads ... it is very inconvenient to follow the same discussions over few threads ...
each double posts we delete to keep forums tidy ....
Furthermore we are volunteers here (making our daily bread at some other place/s) and for that reason each poster must be patient to get answer/s to his question ...
I do believe you'll get some answer soon.
Best regards, Josip

Hi, ratheep
How old is this plant .... do you have those problems since start?
do you have the same problem during winter time?
... according to your sketch something is wrong with layout of inlet/outlet water pipes for condensers ....
Best regards, Josip

Re: Walkin Chiller pipe line Connection
The chilled water flow to the condensers is wrong. The first condenser is OK but the return from this condenser then becomes the flow to the second condenser and so on. The heat picked up from the first condenser is added to the second condenser so by the time you get to condenser 10, you have very very little cooling effect.
The pump is then dumping the return water back into the flow circuit instead of the chiller. This will add the heat rejected by the 10 walk-in chill rooms back into the chilled flow, raising it's temperature and reducing the cooling effect.
A better system layout is attached

Re: Walkin Chiller pipe line Connection
Franks drawing is the best option, also check if there are flow regulators fitted to the condensers, otherwise the first condenser might starve the others of flow
