    i have problem with pumps

    hello everyone,
    i wonder???
what will happen if i closes the suction of a centrifugal pump while it's running
why should we close the discharge a centrifugal pump in 15 seconds at starting times
    thank you in advance.

If you close the suction valve the flow will stop and the pump may start to overheat due to the lack of cooling water flow through it.

Don't know why you would shut the discharge at start up unless you have something 'strange' connected.

A centrifugal pump should not generate a dangerous pulse of pressure when started.

You would however close the discharge valve if you wanted to check the pump's closed head pressure against the pump performance curve.

best answer is fit a gauge, clip the current and try it
