    Effect of oversized liquid line

    Hi everyone,
I have recently taken over a refrigeration dept. of a small display case mfr. Among the many things I'm trying to improve I found us using 3/8" liquid line on a closely coupled 1/3 hp. condensing unit on which the reciever connection is 1/4". I was told it's because the conection size of the TXV we stock is 3/8". Silly reason,,, My question; what ill effects, if any, using a slightly larger liquid line. Thanks to all, Kengineering

Liquid line is less than six feet from reciever outlet to TXV.

    Ken Engineering,

Attached is a link to a recent forum post where you asked this exact question. It was answered in detail then and should help you now.

An interesting thread including the old one.

And lets not forget that with a vrv the diameter of the main line set will be emphasized once again with the total load of both the condensor and air handlers. And again with the heat pump capability regarding both liquid and suction.
Training may be finished but experience is never complete.

Check the pump and air filter fan capacity before turn on.On other way check your power supply connection,if there is high then it is another cause of oversized it.

Liquid refrigerant is a good solvent, so you would have to be very unreasonable with oversizing the liquid line before you get problems.
