I know a fridgie who often 'tops up ' units without repairing leaks what do I do.

I've been put in a situation where I know this is happening but I have no means of proving it, has anyone been in this position before? What should I do? My boss said there is no proof so he can't do anything about it, I don't feel comfortable with the whole situation.

Get the boss to start checking the weight of his gas bottles and to justify where it is going.

get the boss to find a site with a system low on gas, or reclaim some gas to create a problem, then make sure the site has good cctv- then film the f**ker- as the f gas police wont be arsed

if ur boss cant check upon what his minions get up to then maybe he should get some suitable training

Ithought gas was very expensive out there,so your boss must be supplying his van with lots of replacement surely that would ring an alarm bell? because he is using gas but not booking it does not add up to me! i know guys who do it over here it goes on everywhere for certain.

best way to prove this is give him an empty bottle of gas, pull out the non return valve and fill it with oxygen- no more top ups then!!!

I work up on a mine site, so money is not an issue... But I have implemented that we record where our refrigerant goes so I can track it for myself. My supervisor is a bit funny about it, basically saying its a big accusation and if I have no physical evidence then he can't help. Thing is also I know he isn't checking for leaks he is also overcharging units . I pulled 4 kg of r22 out of a unit which took 1 kg base charge 3kg over charged..... I was asked to rip the unit out and replace it because the other fridgie had been there 8 times in the last month. With this particular model they show the same fault for low on gas as they do for a capacitor as they comp goes on overload. He doesn't own a meter to check caps and instead asks to borrow mine which I refuse.. So he then assumes the cap is ok and that it must be gas, but instead of reclaiming gas and pressure tedting system he jus tops up... And better yet he tries to charge to achieve a certain gauge pressure... Which is no way to charge a unit .. They are capillary units and my understanding is you should charge to superheat... I'm now keeping a good record of all the units I work on and everything I find and do to the unit, to cover my arse.

You seem to have a personnal vendetta against this guy .You have reported his activities to your superiors fair enough , but now you should carry on with your own business .Unless you are his supervisor i dont think its your place to catch him out or pounce as you say.

Don't bother, ignore him he is obviously a Pratt. Just carry on doing your job with the knowledge that there is an idiot working for your company.

Understood mate, I find it hard to ignore such activities but I will take on what you have said. I think the best thing for me to do is just to keep a personal log of my jobs

overcharging systems becomes a health and safety issue, an identifiable risk. If left un-actioned you can be implicated if an accident does occur, file and registrar a report to your supervisor to cover your backside.

Wow! 3kg too much r22? The lads a numpty for sure. R22 is bloody dear out here, as it's being phased out. Wouldn't he notice the compressor is all but frozen trying to pump liquid or doesn't he care?
Just keep a record of everything you do, he'll come unstuck sooner or later, surely.
