    Fridge cleaning substances.

I need to find out exactly what chemical/substances I can use when cleaning commercial fridges (internally: evap, drip tray etc. NOT shelving). Especially those chillers shop floor which stock food.

There are some things I'd like to use; for example bleach, but I'm unsure what I can and can't use. I imagine there are also regulations on what is allowed to go down the fridge drain.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    .

As far as the fridge is concerned any thing pretty much goes.
Some acid based cleaners corrode aluminium evap / cond fins
and Chlorine can have a detrimental effect (some bleaches are
    Chlorine based).

But the cleaning products themselves are not too bad, what is
bad is the area you are using the stuff. Because of COSH you
are not allowed to mix chemicals and you are not allowed to
pour certain chemicals down the drain.

The cleaners on site will have a list of what can and can't be
used and it is best to follow their guidance. I for one found
good old hot soapy water cleaned all but the most serious
and hot soapy water flushed down the drains helps keep
    them flowing also.

    Regards

    Rob

    cillit bang! haha
cleaned a saikin under ceiling once with a can of coil cleaner- smelt of oranges- thought great- sprayed coil,3 days later it melted the polystyrene drip tray, usually fridge coils get clogged with dust so a hozelock /hand sprayer would be ok - as the fin spacing is wider than on an air con you wont get the cabinets blowing bubbles whenu run em- (had that too, sprayed a smelly ac with green evap coil cleaner- ran it in cooling and the bugger blew bubbles for an hour!- whichever chemical u use make sure u get a coshh data sheet and wear correct ppe- gloves and goggles as some stuff makes ur skin go rubbery or make ur skin blotchy!

I recently cleaned a load of gravity coolers in our local fish market using Coolsafe which is approved for use in the food industry.

    Got it through Climate Centre.
