    ISO9001:2008 standard

    Someone experience with this standard?
    And additionally, ISO 10005: 2005.
This is part of a quote we want to make onboard a vessel for the Navy.

ISO9001 is a quality of work standard, like all things of this type it is a system that shows that you monitor and control the standard of your product or work ethic.

@Chemi, I have the printed standard but it's more asking how far you can go in this, how others implemented this.
Doing this for 1 job is perhaps not worth to do it. Or perhaps pre-chewed templates for Refrigeration in specific already exist and can be bought somewhere. Or specialized companies can do this for you.

    Hi Peter,
For one job it isn't worth it and you probably wouldn't have time to get the certification done in time for the job...

You are looking at setting up a system that keep complete trace-ability of all the paperwork and information, this then have to be audited by an approved organisation before you get accredited.

The way around this is to carry out the work as a subcontractor to an already accredited company.

    Re: ISO9001:2008 standard

    Basic processes needed for ISO9001:
he standard specifies that the organisation shall issue and maintain the following six documented procedures:
    Control of Documents (4.2.3)
    Control of Records (4.2.4)
    Internal Audits (8.2.2)
Control of Nonconforming Product / Service (8.3)
    Corrective Action (8.5.2)
    Preventive Action (8.5.3)

I work for a company currently going through the ISO9001 process. It's VERY time consuming and can get pretty expensive. It involves a lot of new controls, paperwork, checks, processes, etc. Creating of Standard Operating Procedures is one of the most time consuming portions.

ISO9001 certification is becoming more common place with many contracts and companies requiring it for one reason or another. It may not be beneficial for you for this one major job - however it can help you out significantly in the long run. Think 5+ year investment.

ISO 9001has improves quality and productivity of organization, creates awareness among staff about the business system, use of raw material and internal communication etc.

All requirements by ISO 9001 are general which is applicable to all organizations, regardless of type, size and product provided.

    Re: ISO9001:2008 standard

Try to keep your detailed processes as simple as possible. The more complex that you make your declared process, then the greater work load that you will create for your self.
Most companies probably have quite a lot of the required procedures already in place. For example, written quotations, quote register, order register, acknowledgement of orders, purchase orders linked to the projects and invoices linked to the projects. That is a fairly simple and typical minimum requirements.
Then you will be advised what quality control monitoring process has to be adhered to and documented. How frequently you have to hold internal audit meetings and so on.
It is quite time consuming but could be worth it in the long run if it secures an order over your competitors. Only time will tell.
