    Copeland Scroll Compressor Problem

    Hi
Dear friend we replace a 5 ton air conditioner compressor with copeland zr72 and after 24 hour the air conditioner showed error.
compressor sounds was like sometimes that compressor has not any oil and after opening compressor we found that it has about 100 gram oil on it.
after replace oil the compressor become very hot and use from 13 to 20 A and overload.
we removed 4 way valve and it become full charged with R22 and use 11.4 amper but became very hot and has a bad noise.
we check t air conditioner ohms and its normal (about 2.6).
we think it has another restriction.
what are you thinking about that?
    can this compressor work normal?
How we can fix this problem?

    There is no error code.
Only Compressor draw Amperage and overload and is noisy.
    Yes we chwcked electric phase.

4gs oil too thick, usually run copeland white oil or 3gs. It should say on the label the type and quantity of oil the compressor uses.
Mostly found in Oxfordshire, UK :)

I think there is not proper oil return. Where the evaporator mounted is at higher position of compressor or below. If the evaporator lies above the compressor pump down cycle strongly recommended. If the evaporator were suited below the compressor, the suction must be trapped to ensure the oil return to the compressor.
Whenever you replace any compressor, you had to study the cause of the compressor fail. when you replace the previous compressor, have you done any check?

    Re: Copeland Scroll Compressor Problem

Normal pressures coupled with high temp and over amperage sure points to high internal friction from failed bearings and trying to seize up. I am assuming pressures are normal? Obviously if you can reduce the charge to a minimum and still see an over current condition, it would be obvious the comp is toast but as Moideen said, you gotta learn why before replacement. Lack of oiling is a grenade with the pin pulled.

    Re: Copeland Scroll Compressor Problem

What was the model # of the old compressor? Is it a proper replacement? Why did it fail?

In R-22 applications “White Oil” is used. White Oil is compatible with Suniso 3GS, Texaco WF 32 and Fuchs KM.

How often does the compressor cycle per hour? A high cycling rate will pump oil into the system and may lead to lubrication failure.
