York compressors and 400 series refrigerants

    Hello,

I'm looking into retro-fitting some DX systems and chilled water systems that run York recip F-62s compressors and York 8XF compressor, from R22 to a 400 series refrigerant. I was wondering has anyone got any experience of this. I cant find any manufacturing guidelines for retro fitting these compressors to 400 series HFC refrigerants. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Re: York compressors and 400 series refrigerants

I've only seen York chillers converted over to R-134a. As with all HFC refrigerants - you'll have to switch to a POE lubricant. POE/MO and POE/AB blends do not work well with HFC's.

You also must ensure no more than 10% of the mineral oil is left either. Mineral oil doesn't play nicely with POE's.

If the system has some real age to it - take the time and run some flush through it now. You'll already have everything apart and a good flush combined with a good POE lubricant can save you a lot of headaches down the road.
