    Qualified but not experienced!

Hi, I passed the relevant courses about 4 months ago after leaving the military hoping to get into the trade. Unfortunately my lack of experience is obviously off putting to employers. The qualifications I have are as follows-

    • C & G 17th Edition Wiring Regulations
    • 7543 Certification
    • 7543 Certificate in Mo--bile Air Conditioning Systems
    • F-Gas J11 Scheme
    • Refrigerant F-gas Safe Handling
    • Commercial J05 Scheme
    • J05 Scheme Pipework and Brazing

I have sent my CV off to 25 companies in the Sheffield area with a covering letter saying I would like to work with one of their service technicians (unpaid) just to gain some experience. I received one email back saying they were impressed with my cv but they haven`t much work at the moment but will give me a call when things pick up.

Does anyone know if there are any insurance problems with me working unpaid for a company?

I have applied for 19 jobs in both Air Conditioning and Refrigeration/ Starting to get disheartened now and have applied for other jobs. If I work doing something else I am losing time. Does anyone have any suggestions other than moving to Australia as that is not achievable with a new baby.

    Thanks for reading . Luke

Don't offer to be unpaid it puts people off. Just apply as an improver or second man, wages may be poor but its better than working for free.

    Love.

    Lifestyle is nice too.

It is categorically NOT the land of milk & honey.

Don't bother even thinking of moving here with qualifications but no experience. I believe you're no more likely to be taken on than you will at home. Maybe less likely in fact. Sorry, but that's the way it seems to be here.

Well my sincerely advice would be NO. Listen mostly it is the experience that does mater in such situation as you might have learned about the compressor to pressure but didn't actually have tried to fix or make it. Then what woulds you do instead of panicking. So it is better to have some experience with your diplomas. Best of luck.

Life aint a bowl of cherries!
You have to start from the bottom, aprentice?
Qualifications only prove you have passed the tests but important to have.

Personally i dont like sending CV [not that I ever did]. go in person and knock on doors.
ask people in the trade if they know or heard anything about a job.

Never give up!! Never work for free!!
I am sure you will get a start somewhere.
    Best of luck.

Ring around places like climate centre, FSW, dean and wood and Kooltech.
Most times when I'm in there I see various job opportunities on their notice boards.

Or ring around agency's, they always have work....maybe work for an improver.
The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.

Hi, it might be a long shot but I'm from Doncaster and althought I couldn't take you on myself I have heard on the grape vine a few weeks ago that a large refrigeration company in Doncaster are looking for somebody, if your prepared to travel to Doncaster then give Williams central a call, or better still pop down and give them a knock on the door, always better face to face.
Could be a long shot but if you want a way in could be worth it if they have anything.

    Good luck.
