    homemade kegerator

Hey guys im new to the forum, im not sure if this is the right place to ask this but here it goes. I made a custom bar at my house and i made a custom space where i wanted to build my own custom fridge that can fit a keg inside it. The thing i want to know is how i could basically make my own built in fridge to cool the keg? could i strip down a mini fridge and use the components?

    .

Is this an American thing? I have heard a few Americans
refer to kegorators and I often wondered about them and
I've even seen one American driving one on Youtube
    (it had an engine fitted).

Are you doing this for the fun of it or are you
    doing this because of cost?

If you are doing it for fun, any fridge could be converted
as you say if you have the time and equipment, but
it will not be the cheapest option (in my opinion).

There are better ways to cool beer and they are already built,
    just look for a

These are all UK based but they must do them in the US?.

Yes it is an "American thing" and Canadian too. There is a large and growing culture of home brewing enthusiasts on this side of the pond, and we want our home-made beer to be shown to best effect. Also since we are a bunch of DIY people making our beer, we look for DIY options for serving it as well.

My recommendation is to contact Micromatic.com and find a dealer for a kegerator conversion kit which will fit into any appropriately sized domestic fridge (ie: a fridge large enough to fit your keg). or alternatively you could build a "keezer" or chest freezer and replace the temperature contoller with for example a Johnson A419 to get your target temperature range. Lots of sites on the homebrew forums for "keezer" and "kegerator" conversions
