best to degas it so you can compare to the stated total system charge- most vrv's have additional charge so you will struggle to get it in the condenser and also if outdoor valves pass, you could be putting nitrogen into the circuit or losing gas whilst u modify the system.
just get a 50kg reclaim bottle and degas whilst ur mounting ur bs box, running comms and piping
dont forget to drive valves open in setting mode 2 on the outdoor

It's already got all the comms etc , just that this one bs box is knackered and I have to put new one in , I'm sure the charge is ok , usually I would degas everything but my knobhead boss cut the time on job on quote , and has told me to pump down ??

    Re: Vrv2 pumdown

Sorry forgot to say it's an exsiting system in a hotel , also does anyone know the pipe sizes on the bs box bsvq100mav1 , will I need fittings or will it be ok to just braze out the pipe work and fit the new box to exsiting pipe work ??

best way is to hacksaw the pipework at the bs box- remove the swarf from the pipework, unsweat the stubbs, bish bash bosh- access permitted

yep thats it- use it for reclaiming excess charge and pressure testing and vaccing and also for dumping gas in when charging too

Hi Darrenp welcome to RE forum.
There's simple thing you can do.
Set the whole system to cooling mode 16°C; set point unit OFF
Then after run under mode 2 code six binary set 1 (forced demand)
Wait til you feel your outdoor reach his max value and then stabilized ( or see your service checker, or wait for example 20 mn and verify the rooms are cold enough).
Then after push once the MODE button on outdoor main pcb to stop the forced mode.
At this time the VRV will recover the maximum gas as a pump down.
Be careful that nobody will start the system.
Close the 3 valves (or more in multi combination and in this case be careful of oil egalisation too)
Set mode 2 code 21 binary set 1 (EEV opening)
Then recover the gas... I don't know exactly your system but i think you'll recover from 0.5 to 1 kg ( i hope so!! )
    Kind regards

    Hi
The other one allows you to drive all indoor units in "TEST" mode manualy in cooling or heating (even fan only if you need ) let's call it "forced operation"
It' s quite useful don't need to set each remote control to this function, just do it once from your VRV.
Then after when you leave the customer settings remain the same...
After, by "unit OFF" mode i just mean to stop the unit by the remote control.

    Hello Darrenp
Just take a look at the attachement it's a sample of service manual, print it and go on sight with it.
