    samsung

Anyone seen one of these things?

Got a call 2 days ago from a school near oxford to say 'it's not cooling'

it was installed by a company who lost the contract for oxfordshire so they couldn't get hold of them

i went to site and found some kids had turned off the isolator on the roof.

i switched it back on and it run..a-okay no problarmo nice little earner ;-))

today I got another call saying it runs but it's not cooling,so I popped in on my way home...

up on the roof found the unit less than a year old and the 4way valve split and dumped it gas

I showed the customer who spotted the 'made in china' label on the valve and just sighed...

    cheers

I've come across these things before.
Okay that certainly narrows it down.. I had already eliminated digital camera AND a TV so I was getting close to a sloution..

however providing you are right (you didn't seem too certain) we can move the conversation on to the possibility that they are s.h.i.t.e quality..

    cheers

    Re: samsung

Are you sure the gas leaked out of the 4 way valve?

It could have leaked out of the hole on the lid where the screw is missing

Ambient Technical Solutions in Stoke on Trent were recently appointed dealers of Samsung, they have been trying to get me to buy Samsung for ages now, I much prefer Fujitsu.

I had a 4 way valve split on an Airwell before, It had cracked where the pipe joins the brass body.

    Re: samsung

well for two reasons i may well just cut it out

1 it's in a server room so no heat is req'd
2 there is no warrenty so they would have to buy rev. valve and it's redundant -see 1

    Re: samsung

    Be careful with that Richard

We had a Tosh doing a server room and the coil had burnt out - as it was critical to keep the thing running and the coil was energised for cooling, our eng took the decision (9:30 at night) to reclaim and cut the valve out.

Well, no problems so far and for about 7 months - then we get the call "it's hot in the room and the AC's not working."

Off to site - guess what - the systems fine - it's just that some plonker had set the controller to heat mode and so the unit just sat there.

The indoor coil sensor was expecting a temp rise within a certain time before the indoor fan was allowed to run and when it didn't come the system just continued to run in cooling and the whole thing iced up (indoor)

    Re: samsung

valid point frank for sure but if someone set the unit on heat and the valve was still in place the unit would have heated up the room.

no i think i shall naturally inform and get consent but i feel it's the best course of action. + a big "do not touch the controls" sign should absolve any responsibility to all apart from the person who ignores it

The green sticker, isn't that a Saginomyia 4-way valve?
If so, it's Japanese and part now of the Danfoss group.
Daikin and Mitsubishi and many others are installing the same brand. We use it also in the market trucks.
    Where was it ruptured?
It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

yes, but it also has a 'made in china' sticker on it..

I didn't have any nitrogen on me and it was completely flat so i only has the oil as evidence..

however i shall return and see exactly where it was leaking from
