    Auto Defrosting

    Hi all,

Got a quick question about air con. I do mostly refrigeration, but have been asked to have a quick look at the air con at my partners work. All they have said so far, is when both units are switched on, they just flash auto-defrost.....

    Any idea what this means?

    Many thanks

    Matt

    Re: Auto Defrosting

Most likely a lack of refrigerant.

The defrost symbol on most A/C systems are the same as the pre heat symbol. If the indoor coil fails to reach a certain temperature (between 35 & 45ºC depending on make and model) the unit will stay on pre-heat/defrost.

Other things to check includes free airflow around outdoor unit, outdoor unit's fan running and outdoor unit's coil clean/free of ice.
But if it looks OK then the next thing to do is to reclaim and check the charge.

    Good Luck
