    Cooling capacity??

    Hi all,

I'm currently studying building services and have a refrigeration exam on the way.

Some advised areas to revise and understand are:

    Refrigerant effect

    Coefficient of Performance

    Compressor power

    Cooling capacity.

I am happy with the first 3 however, I have searched everywhere I can think of, for the cooling capacity without luck. Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can find out about it. As I thought it was the same as the refrigerant effect.

The question is based on cycles, and all I could find in books and the internet is about plant sizing which from the question im sure is a different meaning.

    Thanks Greg.

    Re: Cooling capacity??

Cooling capacity is the amount of heat that can be removed by cooling unit.

    Re: Cooling capacity??

Once I found the answer I realised I was looking far to deep.

As you said Chemi, the amount of cooling work done.

Mass flow rate x Refrigerant effect.

You need to go back to your basics here.
I would assume they will base questions on the Log P-H diagram(Mollier). This is the basis to the refrigeration simple cycle.

The refrigeration consists of the following states.
    Polytropic Compression
    Isobaric cooling (Supercooling included)
    Isenthalpic expansion
Isobaric expansion - This is your cooling capacity and corresponds to your net cooling capacity.
I love the smell of Ammonia in the morning!
