basic operating principles of compressors
To all
I am an enginnering teacher at 2nd level in Ireland (ages 13-18)
As part of the leaving certificate(final examination before university) in engineering, students must study a specialised topic and the topic for this year is
"Basic principles and operation of compressors in refrigeration"
I would be grateful if anyone has any notes or can lead me to a website that would be useful
my email is alan.mongey@ul.ie
thanking you in advance

I would seem any study of compressor operation would necessarily with some thermodynamics and the ideal refrigeration cycle. Chapter 1 of the ASHRAE Fundamentals Handbook provides a nice overview of this subject. Some areas that can be considered for study
- Carnot cycle and the second law of thermodynamics
The ideal refrigeration cycle
The ideal compressor
Ideal gas law; Boyle's Law; Charles' Law
These subjects can get a bit technical. Your average 16 year old may blanch at the idea of explaining compressor operation in terms of the second law.Prof Sporlan
