How to couple ductile iron pipe to PVC schedule 40 chilled water pipe

    Hi,
We have an 8" rusted ductile iron chilled water pipe we need to cut and couple it with PVC schedule 40 pipe and the pressure is 65 psi. What kind of coupling is good for this application? If there are no coupling for such an application then the pipes are very rusted and we will see if we can cut it and weld a flange to the pipe and then from there we can connect to a flanged PVC pipe, the question in this case is, what is the best way to weld on to a ductile iron pipe?

The only way I know of is MIG welding, not sure of the gas shield volume, wire feed etc though. If the pipe`s rusted it could be corroded further back, any possibility of taking the length of pipe out back to the nearest connection and fitting the new PVC from there? That`s assuming, of course, there is a suitable fitting.
    Cheers,
    Glenn

Hi probably a bit late in a response but here goes !

BSS or Pipe centre will be able to help you, the product you are looking for is called a "viking johnson coupler" they come in all sizes even past 14" dia Severn trent water board use them for underground water mains, they will connect most pipes including even concrete! and will easily be able to cope with the pressure . they are a compression style fitting therefore no need for "hot works"

    hope this helps Andy
