    whirlpool K20, K40 Ice Machine

I need to get hold of a evaporator coil/plate for a whirlpool K40 ice machine, can anybody tell me if the coil for the K40 is the same size as the coil on a k20?? or is the 40 bigger?, thanks!

Thanks monkey, reason i am asking is an ex employee managed to split one on a customers k40 about 6 month ago, i welded it with silver solder and pressure tested and it held until last week got called out and it split again so i got to foot the bill and replace it, they are £200 new but a friend has a k20 for scrap which needs a new compressor so i was seeing if i could swap the evaps over, if not then i gotta bite the bullet!!

chances are they will be similar but changing them are a pain in the ass,and then rebuilding it,vaccing and gassing then find out it floods back or it was choked on the capillary and that what caused the compressor fail- srw 157quid plus vat

The plate is the same size, but the pipes are a lot bigger for the K40. We stock the spares so contact us via my Vcard if you want to discuss it with our service manager.

Alternatively, there is a full parts breakdown on both machines available to download from http://www.pentlandwholesale.co.uk/product/K20.aspx even if it doesn't help here, worth having for future reference.

    Hello,
got an old K20 that won't produce
looking for some inspiration here, having printed off the relevent info, thought i would give it a go.
    1. disconnected pump
    2. compressor runs, evap slab freezes. ( no condensor fan)
    3. 20 mins later water inlet opens and water pumps out through drain.
    4. unit fails to Harvest (maybe i didn't leave it long enough 45mins)
    5. measured ice thickness stat open circuit.

unit sporadicially will wash when wash button pressed.
    any ideas plz.
can see the 3 fuses on wiring diagram can only find 1 on unit.
    cutter 16v and continuity.

    Hi Spimps,
Thanks for that, that's not the news i wanted to hear unit must be at least 15 years old and is running on R12, I know its not full proof but compressor discharge pipes are nice and hot and slab is getting cold, it will produce ice if i can get splash water on the slab. Haven't yet managed to see any schraeder or service connections. I only got roped into this as a favour (transport refrigeration engineer).
