    Differential Vs. offset

Looking for some help in understanding the difference between differential and offset settings. For example on a Johnson controls system 350 there is a differential setting and an offset setting in the s350 staging module. I have encountered a few systems (heating) that utilized this system 350. There is usually a couple of staging modules. I am just looking for some examples on how the settings apply to the system. Any insight would be appreciated.

    Re: Differential Vs. offset

Differential is normally like a dead band. If you have a differential of 2º on a system providing heating and cooling it will heat up to set point and then not cool until the temperature risen another 2º.
Offset is telling the controller that the temperature it is reading is not the right temperature. It can be used for calibrating sensors or allowing for stratification for example.
