    Mojonnier carbo cooler pipework

An old mojonnier turned up on a site to be re installed & has some pipework not seen by us before.

It has a standard surge drum with liquid supply & return for plates.
On the bottom of the liquid leg into plates, just above oil drain, is a line with a non return valve.

This line is piped back upstream of high pressure liquid line makeup solenoid valve.

The suction line has standard back pressure regulator.

We can't see any obvious reason for this line with non return valve, any ideas?

    Hi Ranger

this line is for liquid return to the high side of the plant.
if you shut of inlet and outlet valves of the exchanger, the liquid expanded flow back to the high side.
of course, high side relief valves setting must be lower than max pressure of the exchanger

Thanks cricri, so is it for a quick pump out of heat exchanger or CIP?

It might be for CIP like for scraped heat exchanger

This line is to be connected back into the liquid line upstream on the liquid line makeup valve and strainer.
The line is for when the carbo cooler runs a hot CIP, the idea is any hot pressure liquid is sent back up the liquid line to the reciever ( with the condensing system running) and empties out the srurge drum quickly. However you still have to ensure they introduce hot water slowly and warm the water up over a period of time.
