    Hi Wilber,

To change a system from R600 to R134a is easy..

All you have to do is change the comp, cond, evap, suction pipe and the capillary.

After that, vac the system and recharge with R134a.

Alternatively, cut the filter drier out, purge the system with OFN, solder in a new drier and recharge with R49, it works fine but the compressor is slightly oversized on R49. If changing the compressor on say a double door bottle cooler, you need to resize the compressor prior to recharging with R49, a double door becomes an Embraco EM 55, works just fine!

If you are going to do that, you will have to chop off most of the capillary.

The cap in R600 is always about 10 miles long compared to other systems.

That is why I always cut out the filter drier and blow all the circuits throgh with OFN just in case there is a blockage or even a pocket of oil / gas. I use a VAX 4 charging stub with a length of condensate hose attached and use that for a quick connector to blow the circuits through. The first time I was a told to replace R600 with R49 I too raised my eyebrows, but after recharging many Elstar bottle coolers this way I have had no problems with them at all, like I said the compressor becomes oversized and obviously the suction pressure drops but does not cause overheating. Regarding the cc of the Embraco 55 it is 5.5cc, we fit them to all the double door coolers except the Concorde which takes a FG85 and we fit from memory EM40 to the single door chillers, this is what my wholesaler has always advised.

    Hi wilber!

In my opinion, you have to change the refrigerating oil from MO(Mineral Oil) to POE.

MO(usually use in R600a) can`t circulate in a refrigeration cycle mixed with R134a. So it is possible to make a wear problem.

On Single Doors ( MK Courier ) and the like I use Embraco 7.5 cc

On 2 Door I use the Embraco 10cc

I think I am fitting too big a compressor , but was under impression the EM 55 or EM 40 would be too small

But , maybe I ought to consider using these now

Speak to Mark at CARS (UK) ltd, he has a lot of knowledge of this type of thing and he is an Embraco distributor as well, where ever you buy your Embracos from will come from him anyway. 01782 823333
