    Instrument calibration certificates

    Hi Guys,
Instrument calibration, isn't this just the fun side of our business. I realise there will be many differing stories and anecdotal tails of how we used to check if a gauge was right or not.
Now we have ISO 9001 et al. and clients who demand quality assurance, by asking us to present them with calibration certificates for all and sundry, of the tools and instruments we use.

My burning question covers manifolds with analogue gauges. Does anyone know where these can be tested and, even then, wouldn't the test be no better than an MOT where the value of it falls by the wayside as soon as you drive away?

    Cheers

The company i work for is way over the top when it comes to callibration etc we have to have all instruments calibrated and all electrical tools even laptops pat tested yearly we even have a set of calibrated weights to check our scales, we never have to get our gauges calibrated you do that yourself by turning the screw on the dial at the end of the day the print on the front of the dial will never change

They can be calibrated, a company here does them but as James says is there a point? One good shaking in the van and bugger!! What about Testo or similar, would these be more "calibratable"?

Testo is very calibratable as are all the electronic sets.
We have a customer who provides a lot of work, now insisting analogue gauges are calibrated ... bit of a nonsense I think but they aren't backing off at this stage.

    Just a thought,
Could you buy your own "master" calibrated, certified digital or normal gauge to check your calibrations.
This one gauge would then be calibrated at regular intervals like annually. Normally it would be kept in a suitable workshop environment, not in the back of your truck.
You would just have a procedure made up to check.
This way you can check it when you like. The most important press/temps are 0 deg C
    & high pressure cut out.
