    Testing domestics.

    .

I was looking through some old training materials
I have collected over the years and I found a document
the is all about domestic refrigeration and how to work
    on them.

It is a realy good document but there was one section
that realy made me smile and demonstrated just how much
    our industry has changed.

It was printed in the early 80's so its only 30 years old but
it describes leak test with a match...........

With the system running you hold a burning match to the
pipe coming from the bottom of the condenser.

When you remove the match the pipe should be cool to touch,
thus proving that the liquid is present and subcooled....

Can you imagin teaching that nowadays with HC refrigerants.

Worked for Electrolux on all the gaslux (gasboard) and lpg fridges and freezers,70's and 80's we had a guy insisted on testing for leaks with a match !! Madam he used to say I can always smell the leak first this is just a secondary check, then, one day a little pop whilst he was checking an lpg built in caravan fridge and no hair left on his right arm cheaper than waxing
How did we survive all these years?
