Lokring... anyone use it regularly?

Hi!

Do you use Lokring regularly for joining pipes instead of soldering?

Especially for instance, on the last connection of a system, right up in the air, on a stepladder, soldering gets a bit tricky with the hose stretched to its limit.

I was looking around and saw that www.lokring.com seems a great technology, and has been around for a while. I was wondering if anyone here could vouch for it, for refrigeration systems?

You don't use hand torch for silver soldering?

I have used the lockring system and it is good for most applications except 410a! but solderind would be a better option try buying a map gas torch for jobs like that

I've seen the lokring system demonstrated at the RAC show.

Seems to work but also seems an expensive an fiddly way of going about things.

Mapp gas torches are good but why not get some mini oxy/gas bottles? (For when you need more heat).

I got mine for about £70 + Vat and was amazed at what they could do plus they are light enough to take up ladders etc.

They will do up to 5/8 pipe easily.

Yep, we have to use it on small stuff when replacing compressors air-side at Gatwick as they don't allow hot works. A little fiddly but we've had no leaks/probs as yet.
