One of our plants is ammonia indirect chilling a closed calcium chloride brine loop. The specific gravity of the brine was low (1.18) and we wanted an s.g. of 1.21. So, we added more calcium chloride by drawing some brine out into a tank, mixing in Peladow slowly and carefully agitated with a wooden paddle to minimize entrained air. During this process, we produced and skimmed off about a gallon of thick foam for every 50 gallons of fortified brine before pumping the skimmed brine back into the system.

Do any of you know what may have caused this foam? This system has some iron oxide in the brine but has normal levels of BrineHib, pH ...

Thank you,

JB
