Re: salaries of technicians who work in industrial refrigeration with ammonia
Well one guy I work with has Universal EPA certification and Associates degree in HVACR. Hired to NH3 plant at 12.50/hour and makes 16/hour after 5 years. Working 80 plus hours a week. Anything after 40 is time and a half.
Lead Engineer with 15 years experience is making 21/hour, I think.
I'm less than a year in and too embarassed to admit my wage.
But my company is CHEAP.

Re: salaries of technicians who work in industrial refrigeration with ammonia
After 40 years in the trade and the last 20 on mainly NH3 my wage is the same as anyone who has competed his (or her) 4 year appreticeship in the trade. This is only fair as the new mechanic has a harder job than the one with the experience and also NH3 is much simpler to work with. ..... Wage $40.00 to $50.00 per hour in my area, as a journeyman....... No one but a Qualified Refrigeration Mechanic should work on an ammonia system!!

Re: salaries of technicians who work in industrial refrigeration with ammonia
salaries differ from company to company-as some throw in healthcare/pensions/estate cars-i know were easily pleased- some companies pay higher salaries but expect you to work saturdays or call outs for free. you may be lucky and work for a company with a tracker!- currently ive been doing 20yr of install, service, repairs on splits, vrv's chillers, fridges inc domestic- never touched ammonia- basic monthly pay before tax is £2270.83- salary of £27,250- but with overtime i can beef that up to £48,000

Re: salaries of technicians who work in industrial refrigeration with ammonia
I'm in the UK, and a refrigeration engineer of 6 years (4yr apprenticeship) and am now earning around £26,000 PA. I am a refrigeration technician with ammonia training. This is probably different to Canada, but technicians can work on ammonia systems if they have the correct training in ammonia

Re: salaries of technicians who work in industrial refrigeration with ammonia
Copied from the British Columbia Union agreement (http://www.ua516.org/sites/default/f...0Agreement.pdf) . if you Google the other provinces in Canada I am sure you will be able to find the agreements.
I have not found many companies in Canada the pay differential for working in the NH3 side. this is only the union agreement and we have lots of non-union companies in Canada. I know the one I use to work for in Alberta tried to stay ahead of the union rate.
Good luck on your wage search.

Re: salaries of technicians who work in industrial refrigeration with ammonia
In California/Arizona plant operators/Technicians range from 11 to 25 an hour. The company that i work for starts at 21 for an apprentices with a service truck we take home. (due to 24 hr service we offer). RETA certified Technician (CORA) range from 25 to 45 an hour. Working for the right company makes a huge difference on wages as well as opportunities to progress both money and knowledge wise.

Re: salaries of technicians who work in industrial refrigeration with ammonia
Here the salary scale goes with experience and ability plus qualifications. Basically how much work and turn over you can generate for employer. Not difficult to have a gross income package of $100,000.00/ 50 K UK/ 82K US per annum.

Re: salaries of technicians who work in industrial refrigeration with ammonia
usd 30 - 60 is the span around here.
the average yearly salary is maybe usd 45.000
however if you are experienced and don't mind traveling the globe, it's not uncommon to see yearly salaries of usd 140.000Last edited by Tycho; 31-08-2012 at 04:14 PM.
