    Choice of Refrigerant

I'm doing a project and looking for some advice on how to choose which refrigerant to use.

I'm designing a vapour compression refrigeration cycle which needs to remove 323kW of heat energy in the evaporator. At this stage, the refrigerant will need to be at around -5C as I am cooling to 5C.

In the condenser I will probably be cooling the refrigerant using air at a maximum temperature of 45C.

Can anyone give me some advice on what refrigerant to use? I know it depends somewhat on the compressor and pressure used but as these depend on refrigerant it's very hard to choose!

After reading about it online i've been considering R22 and R134a

    Thanks

The fact that you are considering R22 means you are either not qualified to design it and will need us to do it all for you or you are a student looking to us to do your home work...

    Re: Choice of Refrigerant

Admitadley I don't have experience in designing refrigerators. I'm a student at university and as part of a group project we have decided that the best option to cool a gas below its dew point is to use the vapour compression cycle. I'm not looking for you to design anything, do homework, or tell me an answer. Mearly offer some advice.

I have done some research. Mainly through reading a textbook by Chengal and Boles and that is where I had come across R22 and 134a.

Any advice on how to go about choosing a refrigerant or links to articles which could be of help are still much appreciated

You could try R717 as it smells the best

    Have a look at R407F.

R22 has been banned, it would be like designing a car to run un leaded petrol! Hence the comments above!
Mostly found in Oxfordshire, UK :)

R717 is the most efficient and highly eco freindly.
The choice is a bit like a menu at cafe, the options are endless.

For that amount of cooling, i would probably use R507. 45C ambient would be a little high for R410a.
BTW, my car runs on unleaded, or E10, premium or 98 octane
Have to be made of money to use the 98.
