    Embraco/Aspera NJ2192GK Relay and wiring?

    Hi all,
    A new guy here.

I was building myself an air compressor, and after a trip to the local scrappy, I found myself a Embraco/Aspera NJ2192GK compressor in reasonable condition. However, as always - no electrics to go with it.

By reading the manufacturer's manual I see that a relay needed is 3ARR3B3AA3. But I am having horrible luck trying to find one, especially in the UK.
Is anyone aware of any equivalent or substitute? As you can probably see, I am not an expert in this field.

Using search I only found one thread for this particular compressor on an unrelated topic...

Your advice is sooooooo much appreciated!

Oh, it is not the first time I am doing this, I have built a few back in the good old days, including one from a (very!) old Soviet fridge. 50 years old and the compressor was good as new!
Main reason, it has to be very quiet. You don't get much better than a fridge compressor for this.
Unless you want to fork out about 200-400 quid for a Clarke Shhh! range... And guess what they use as a pump? Something that looks suspiciously like a fridge compressor! lol

Go to your nearest Refrigeration suppliers and tell them you want a start kit for a 1.2kw compressor. as well as the relay you will need an 90-115uf start cap and a 20uf run cap.
The guys will know exactly what you're after.

Thanks a lot Stu, however at the moment I am pretty ill and in bed most of the time.
Does anyone know where I could buy something like this online?
    Much appreciated!

Re: Embraco/Aspera NJ2192GK Relay and wiring?

Mmm, there might be a slight problem with that.
I had to literally dig this guy out out of a small mountain of various electric motors. There were quite a few of them, however none had any electrics attached, which makes me think that whoever sold them to the scrappy took them all off.
The relay is 27 quid from HRP, sure, it's almost three times what I paid for the compressor but its still a bloody side cheaper than a 70 quid compressor from ebay and much more powerful! I will try to give the Bristol branch a call tomorrow to see if they have got it in stock. If not, I may need to go back to the scrappy

Re: Embraco/Aspera NJ2192GK Relay and wiring?

    Hey guys

so, I made my compressor work! However, I have also ruined it (long story)...
So I went to my scrappy and got another one, I got lucky - same exact model, looks brand new (still had the rubber plugs in the pipes).
Tried plugging it in - it started jumping up and down violently making a great noise. Was switched off immediately (after about one second of running).
Any ideas of what that could be? I did not allow it to sit for a while after getting it home, could it be the oil getting in the cylinder and hydro-locking it?
I tried tipping it over - oil came out of the suction pipe (normal, i think), also some oil came out of the discharge pipe.
Will allowing it to sit for some time fix this problem? How likely is it that I have broken the conrod? I measured the resistances across the terminals, all seem fine, so the motor should not be damaged.
    Any ideas?

It could be a dud and off the internal spring mounts.
Let it sit for a while and try again ,I wouldn't hold out much hope though.

Bring your start/run rig with you and see if they will let you test the compressors on site .
Save on all that bus fare

Yeah, that's a darn good idea stu!
just tried it again twice, the same problem... I am trying to drain all the oil out as a last resort now, maybe that will free the piston up somehow...
    Damn it!

Re: Embraco/Aspera NJ2192GK Relay and wiring?

Well, just came back from the scrappy.
I tried one other motor there of the same model, and it was doing the exact same thing. That left me wondering, could it be a problem with the wiring? Lets say accidentally mixing up the wires and putting a start lead on common or something?
I tried swapping the start-run leads around, same thing.

In the end I had to get a different compressor, but of course, that means it needs a different relay, caps and an overload protector. Bloody hell....
The guys in there have a sense of humor though - See you tomorrow they said

Re: Embraco/Aspera NJ2192GK Relay and wiring?

I'm probably annoying everyone with all my stupid questions, but here goes:

The comp I have now does not need a run capacitor, and the start cap I need is the same. Can I use the same relay and simply remove the run cap? Or is it not that easy?

    Guys, thanks for your patience

Re: Embraco/Aspera NJ2192GK Relay and wiring?

    Well, it's working
Fills up two empty fire extinguishers up to 10 bar with no trouble!
So for the record - yes a potential relay from the NJ2192GK can be used with CAJ2428Z with the running cap removed.
It was spitting out quite a bit of smoke out the discharge pipe at first, however seems to be running fine. If it explodes, I will let you know

    Thanks for all your help!

    The smoke smelled electrical...
I actually drained the oil and refilled it to the right level, and then it was spitting smoke AND oil lol
    But seems fine. For now...
