    SAB 8-180 and VMY 432



    Hello coleagues

    I am preparing reconstruction of old industrial plant and I am planning to use three existing compressors:
    SABROE SCREW PACKAGE VMY 432 MK2, for low stage, 250 kW EM
    SABROE PISTON PACKAGE SMC 8-180, for high stage, 200 kW motor, 750 rpm
    SABROE PISTON PACKAGE SMC 8-180, for low stage, 90 kW motor

    Does anyone know capacities for these compressors?
    Low stage means -40/-10C. High stage means -10/+35C

    I could send you something next week but you must give some more informations:
    - refrigerant? NH3!
    - I know VMY 425, 436 Mk2, 437 but not 432. are you sure of these digits. if it is 436 there is a letter behind H, L,M...

    Yes it is NH3, I thought it is obvious but it was my mistake not to mention.
    Regarding screw compressor, yes it is 436 MK2, again my mistake.

    Bezar,

    Regarding the piston compressors I can help you immediately. Concerning the VMY since it's a even more old out-phased compressor I would have to check the old libraries (and I'm on vacations)...if cricri can't help you I help you later.

    About the SMC 8-180, it is a MK1 if it was a MK2 it would be a SMC188...please check. The head covers are rounded on the MK1.

    The MK1 gives about 90% of the MK2 capacity. The swept volume of the MK1 is lower.

    Right now I just have information about the MK2 » SMC188:

    -10șC/+35șC (with non pressure losses and non superheated) » cooling capacity 763 kW, shaft power required 197 kW.

    If it is SMC188 MK2 the 200 kW motor will be short. If it is SMC8-180 so it looks okay...even so if the suction and discharge pressure increase enough the motor could the overloaded.


    -40șC/-10șC (with non pressure losses and non superheated) » cooling capacity 216 kW, shaft power required 57 kW.

    Thnks for info on pistons. I appriciate it. Do you have any ide why would they mount 90 kW motor on low stage SMC8-180 if the shaft power is so low?

    Regarding HS SMC, it is 8-180

    Yes, it is helpful information, although it does not contain capacity data. But anyway, it is helpful regarding compressor working area data.

    Still not containing the refrigeration capacity you can have some good idea of the capacity based on the swept volume compared with the capacity of a compressor which you know its own capacity.

    It Could be a case of a blast freezing tunnel (on its star up the suction pressure can well stay a while on -25șC) or just cold stores (evaporating temperatures about -30șC...and on some moments can rise a little the suction pressure). Also the LP discharge pressure can be somewhat about -5șC in some peaks.
    In any these common cases the electric motor shall be 90 kW to run nice without thermal overload danger.

    I'm still in vacations but I did a search to AERZEN who is the manufacturer of the VMY (at many years ago the firsts screw weren't SABROE).
