    R600 & R134 ok to make a blend?

    Hi All,
I have a customer with a 1953 G.E.C. fridge, which has at some time been fully restored.

The fridge has a R12 compressor, and the poor old fridge has lost sufficient gas not to function well.

I have been searching all over this site, and else were to find a solution to my problem,

that is, i am reluctant to refill the unit ( upon successful pressure test ) with HC (R600) refrigerant, as the item is old and i fear a future emission and want to avoid an exploding fridge scenario.

So i am trying to find R413 (isceon R49) in a kilo can, but no joy.... i have used this in the past but no one seems to stock anymore that i know of.

my only other idea to alleviate this problem is, could i add a small percentage of R600 and complete with R134a???
    Any help would be appreciated

    Kind Regards
    pat...

    Hi fenair.
Also it's worth pointing out that 134a molecules are much smaller than R12.
    The same with R49.
With R49 I was advised by Isceon (Many moon ago) to charge by weight less 10%.

A gas tight R12 system can leak like a sieve with the above replacements.
You were wise to question your blend option and even wiser not to do it!

On a domestic provided you have no flexible hoses all may well be good.

PS Tonto is good for most of us when faced with a domestic!

    Re: R600 & R134 ok to make a blend?

Thanks gents for you comments, and thanks tonto, for looking, this is what i have found, sadly or not it was about 3 years ago, i used R49, as i had ran out of RS24, now both are in the rocking horse sector...

On many vehicles i do, i have been advised to do and to this day it works, to drain if i can the oil, and add 250 ml of POE and charge with 134a, different system sizes and make up i know, but is this possible to do on a domestic, which pipe on the compressor should i inject oil in and are there any pit falls...

    Comments greatly received...

    Pat..
