I have a 7 year old Samsung RS21DCNS which has been playing up for some time. It had the evapourator in the fridge replaced 18 months ago and worked for about 6 months then started having problems with the freezer going into a defrost cycle every 3 months. Now if the whole thing is fully defrosted and switched back on, it will work for approximately a week before the fridge is fully iced up and the freezer goes into defrost and stays that way until the ice had all been manually defrosted.

I have had 2 engineers out, the first did not know what was wrong becauase the diagnostics say everything is working fine. The second said the evapourator in the fridge was the problem (even though it was replaced last year) and that the fact that there was a split in the back wall of the fridge letting air in that was making the problem worse. The whole thing was defrosted, the evapourator replaced, silicon sealant put in the split and within a week it went wrong again. He returned and replaced the thermal fuse and some sensors and again it was not fixed.

He has come back again and said it must be because there is still air getting into the fridge somewhere and that it can't be repaired and that we will have to scrap it.

I am not pleased with this daignosis especially after spending the money on parts etc and think the engineer just doesn't know what is causing it, there are no open holes and the holes that where there were pretty small anyway. The other interesting thing is that the fridge appears to be staying at the correct temperature (despite the ice) , it is only the freezer that is not cooling down correctly.

Does anyone have a view on this?

Thank you
Colin
