    Cooling load Calculation

Hi - im a last year student in bach. of engineering electrical. Currently im doing a thesis on power saving design & analysis.
Air-conditioner contribute almost 50-60% power consumption, so i read some books on air conditioning, like book from C P ARORA.

But i cant understand most of it, since i dont have basic in thermodynamics.

I did some googling, i found some website to calculate cooling load. Like:
    http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/a...ing-worksheet/
but i need formula to put in my thesis.

So here i am - reading threads on cooling load. I need help on formula for cooling load that take count of:
    1) Solar radiation,
    2) Type of roof & building material
    3) Metabolism rate of occupants
    4) Window & door opening leakage
    5) Misc leakage like hole in room & etc.

Thx for reading my thread. My email is faridfauzi2009@gmail.com

    Re: Cooling load Calculation

    Hello Farid,
before begin calculations take a look at this site were u can find several Guides which contains recommendations to design a low-energy-use building and to significantly reduce energy consumptions in small to medium office buildings. This Guide aims to build energy-efficient buildings with 30- 50% energy savings.
    http://j.mp/AshraeEneDesGui

If you're looking for real energy savings in HVAC buildings, it demand more than simple formulas; it's required expert analysis and software tools to simplify an engineering procedure a "little" complex.

farid is only on here to do his homework-maybe a library will help him.
also lighting contributes to a high power consumption, natural lighting helps but thus affects solar heat gain-can he not copy someone elses homework??

    Hi faridfauzi

If you give us a few more of your requirements am sure the forum can totally design your whole building/concept for you, as long as we all get a degree as well !

Is this a good number y12an44a92? A friend of mine is working on

an HVAC unit in Savannah, Georgia, but I don’t get any hits on

    that.

    Re: Cooling load Calculation

Google CIBSE Guide 'A' Environmental Design. In this guide you'll find a calculation called "the CIBSE admittance method", this is a standard manual way of calculating cooling load in a building although it is proven to not be very accurate with the industry now exclusively using dynamic simulation modelling software like IES. There is no one equation or formula to calculate the cooling requirement as there a number of different elements that need to be quantified. The CIBSE method is long winded but if will give you the formula your looking for.

    Best regards
