Re: New World Champion
The Englishman, Michael Adams, placed a respectable seventh. But maybe this is the way it is going.
Recently, the English paper, The Daily Telegraph, scrapped their Sunday chess column (by Nigel Short), in order to put in an extra poker section.
Before people said: If you want your kids to become smarter, teach them to play chess. Today they are maybe saying: If you want your kids to become rich, teach them to play poker.
We have become a world of gamblers, waiting for the lottery to save us. Today Beckett wouldn’t have written “Waiting for Godot” but “Waiting for the Lottery”.
Well, I say, If this is the way it is going, then put me on the first bus that goes in the opposite direction!
Regards,
Jan
