Insulating compressor and fan assembly to reduce noise??

    Hey everyone,

What s the best way to reduce the noise of a compressor and fan assembly?

I was thinking about building a box around it with an opening in the wall for fresh air but i am not sure about what to use to reduce the noise? (styrofoam, fiberglass...)

What are the good and bads in enclosing a compressor/ fan / condenser assembly unit?

Put the condenser unit outside/remote if you can and pipe through wall, less noise + cheaper to run.
Once noisey apart from ensuring condenser fan is OK and rubber mounts on compressor ther isnt much else bar changing compressor apart from issuing ear muffs

You can sound proof quite effectively if you build a box around the unit, do not leave an opening but rather some vents with insulation around it, put a vent on one side of box and install a small muffin fan on the other side. There are materials specifically designed for sound proofing and you can find them on the web however you should see a good improvement using foam baord.
