    Out of Calibration Torr Gauges.

Is there any reason why Torr Gauges cannot be re calibrated?

I decided to check out my old gauges box and discovered 3, 40 to 0 Torr gauges.
When stripped I discovered the there is no Bordon Tube to damage.

Simply a Brass disc / rack and pinion set-up within sealed cylinder with the glass cover as the lid.

So would it not be possible to have these re-sealed and re-calibrated.
Or is the myth maintained so that new gauges are purchased every time there is an issue?

Has anyone discovered a gauge company who will recalibrate these?

Neither really, I just hate the thought of potentially good Analogue gauges going to waste.
After all they are not cheap!
I have several electronic versions. But push come to shove I prefer the old fashioned method.
    Thanks for the input.

You could always try Edwards, they make them and do calibration as well.

If it's one of those old Edwards high vacuum gauges, they were always very expenesive.

The reason is that they measure exceptionally small values of pressure very accurately when scaled down to a couple of millibar (or Torrr, if you prefer).

These gauges are high precision, calibrated to altitude to avoid atmospheric distortion, then sealed.

If it is repairable, expect to pay a lot.

I have one that's been sitting in my garage for many years.......
I haven't used it since the last big-chiller-dry-outs I did in the early 80's
..........think I might put it on fleabay.....

Also had email contact from SM Gauges who charge about £40 + carriage per gauge.

That's one of the 2 Bristol companies that I was considering contacting.
Brilliant, thanks for the legwork Brian.
I don't think that's unreasonable as a new Gauge must be well over a 100 quid nowadays.
    Brilliant.
