conversion of glycol evaporator into r-22 evaporator

    hi everybody i'm new,

is it possible to convert the existing glycol evaporator into r-22 evaporator?
my concern is, glycol type has no distributor and txv, is it fine to change the inlet and put a distributor and txv?

If it's for pump system it will work well, still it's not optimized for that 2 phase flow.

am i understanding that u want to drain your wet, cooler and pipe r22 through the cooler to use it as an evaporator.
system pressure would be a concern, what about the auto air vent/drain point, this sounds like a disaster in the making.
i recommend getting a new evap coil designed for refrigerant with distributors and expansion valve. and u get chance to recycle the old coil/scrap yard

    hi guys,
i am condemning it, we will supply new accu for r 22 and trying to figure out if we could utilize the existing glycol evap'r, kinda installing a distributor & txv, application temperature is +8 deg c.
    what do you think guys?

How much would cost you a new evaporator coil for R22 DX?

    hi SB,

that's my problem, it is clients call. anyway here in Philippines that would cost almost 2M (importation), unit cooler alone.
for them it would be a waste of money. and besides it will be scrapped.
on the other side conversion would cause a lot of trouble and inefficiency, i will take your point, it will be a disaster if we go on conversion.

    thanks a lot SB.

Each evaporator coil?? A lot of expensive. Now I understand you try to retrofit the coils...
