    Unhappy Hussmann aluminum coil repair

Found refrigerant leak on Hussmann evaporator coil. Leak on one u-bend where copper tubing connects to aluminum. Removed 12 foot coil to be repaired at machine shop. Machine shop pressure tested leak area; repair good. Reinstalled coil right after repair and pressure tested to 40 psig. Seven other leaks showed up; all on the joints where copper tubing enters the aluminum tubing expansion joint. Coil was transported to and from machine shop carefully.
We used JB quick-setting weld (two-part) on the leaks while pulling vacuum on the system. We let the epoxy cure for the recommended four hours and now only three of the previous seven areas are leaking; less than before. Pressure test at 80 psig.
We are in the process of finding a copper evaporator coil replacement from Hussmann however the case has two 12 foot aluminum coils in series so replacing one coil is just rolling dice without replacing both. (Case mfg date 3/31/93. R-22 multi-deck chill display).
Anyone know what the copper/aluminum joint is on this coil? solder? epoxy? Can it be soldered in the field without removing the coil? or manufacturers counting on you to replace the part.

You should speak to beehive Coils in newmarket, I have bought coils from them before - they make them on sight & have a lot of the drawings for the Hussmann cases on file. It will be much cheaper and quicker also.

    Hope this helps

All depends on the cost of shipping them to the States though.
