Agitator
Hi
For the increase of heat exchange in a ice bank which is better an air pump agitator or circulation water pump for the brine
Thanks

Re: Agitator
Air blowers with a suitable spray rail at the bottom of the tank are very effective, especially when combined with similar return and supply water feed rails from the process you are cooling.
JonMostly found in Oxfordshire, UK :)

Re: Agitator
Return water needs to go in bottom of ice bank through a ,distribution manifold covering the bottom and the cold water taken off the top through another maifold right across the top.
The return water being warmer thermal convection makes the water rise to the top for effective cooling when it is drawn off again.
Works well and no need for air agitation or circulation pump.

Re: Agitator
i do not understand your answers
the ice bank is a pool of brine the evaporator coil tube is inside it there is no access at the bottom "it is a close system" , then in order to increase the heat transfert from brine to evaporator we need to agitate the brine i know two methods a circulation pump or air blower which one is better?
thanks

Re: Agitator
Ice bank, there are 3 issues producing ice, using ice and refrigeration effect when there is no ice.
Best method, does depend upon style of the tank and normal process water use.
You have to remember the the most dense water is 4C and not 0C, so just using water sparging can be an issue if you are after very cold water.
Ice prodution no agitation is required, agitation has little effect of heat transfer to the refrigeration when ice is formed on the tubes.
ice usage, air blowing will give best agitation and will remove just about all stratification and will give even ice melting.
Without agitation you have basically have a layer of water which stops transfer between the ice and the main volume of water.
