cooling two rooms with one unit

We live in an apartment and we need to cool a 12x12 living room and a 9x12 bedroom adjacent the living room, with a 33" door. The celing is 8 feet high. I can put a wall split unit either in the living room or in the bedroom. In both cases, the unit will be about 10 feet away from the door. Will one unit be able to cool both rooms? If so, is it better to put it in the living room or the bedroom? Is 2.5kW enough? (say Mitsubishi MSZ GE25). The rest of the apartment is separated by a door which we will keep closed.

why not fit a multi split and have 2.5 kw in each room, you could then run one or both.

notuno, depends where you live in the States, and what ambient temperatures are there in summer and winter. Generally, a 12 by 12 foot room is run by a 3.5 KW a/c. Gets tricky trying to do two rooms with one a/c.
To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty.

Thanks for the answer. This would be ideal but we are renting and the landlord wouldn't bee too happy. Also, with the prices I've seen this would be about 60% more expensive.

mikeref, in summer we are usually between 85 F and 95 F, with very high humidity. In winter we are usually in the low 40's, rarely reaching low 30's.

Mount it in living room, oppose to bedroom door, and you will be probably fully satisfied (depending on isolation of builiding and climate conditions).

If rented, get a split portable and move it around where you want it.

    Hi Notuno

3.5kw in the living room - less noise in bedroom
    All doors kept closed
black out blind in bedroom - kept closed on hot days
    2 x 4inch fans (+ 4 cheap pictures )

Use hole cutter for two holes in livingroom/bedroom wall
    one top / one bottom
mount one fan with air flow livingroom to bedroom bottom
the other air flow bedroom to frontroom top

should work fine (know a man who did exactly this ) & when the landlords due just isolate fans & cover with pictures

You can even leave cheap pics up when you move out - then whose to know
If the World did not Suck, We would all fall off !
