7 nights in the UK - what do you do?

OK I have to go to the UK for work related stuff later this year (October) and at the end of it all have 7 days to myself. I don't give two hoots for big ticket tourist stuff like big ben or the palace, I want to see some good stuff (I will be back with the missus doing that stuff in another year and a half). I have a car and don't mind travelling (the entire UK is smaller than the state of Australia I live in), so what do you guys recommend??

    The quirky?
    The offbeat?
    The underbelly of the UK??

    Hit me fellas!

The National railway Museum in York; that, for anyone with a mechanical bent, is a must.

I can also suggest the Lake district in Cumbria or the Peak disctrict in Derbyshire.

You could visit didcot with its coal fired power station, many roundabouts and cider drinking youths.
Mostly found in Oxfordshire, UK :)

If in York you could also go the viking village, then drive over those hills, go to Blackpool, up the tower, get some rock, and go for a donkey ride down the beach. PS do not forget the knotted hankey

If you like hiking you could take a HF Holiday. I did one last summer in the western highlands, Glen coe area, did Ben Nevis and a bunch of other peaks. Good workout, good food, and good people.

if you do get the time how about Lulworth Cove and Dirdle Door with the huge natural arch. On a fine sunny day that area of coastline is truly breath taking
