Anyone ever rebuild vacuum pumps?
I have a yellow jacket pump which blanked off only pulls down to 120 microns, the JB platinum pump I have will pull down to 1 micron. I looked up the spec on the YJ pump and its supposed to pull down to 15 microns or better. So..... Id like to bring it up to spec and wondering if anyone here has fixed them before and what parts I would most likely be replaceing. When I called the company the said sending it in would cost anywhere from $120-$225 I would rather not put 225 into an old pump vs. buying a new one.
THanks
Dan

Re: Anyone ever rebuild vacuum pumps?
Not the same make but I have put a new pump pack into a vac pump in the past.
Can't remember the cost but it must have been cheaper than a new one otherwise the firm wouldn't have sanctioned it.
Have you tried our friend Google? Quite a few replies to this...

Re: Anyone ever rebuild vacuum pumps?
Most vac pump manufacturers will supply an over haul kit ie vanes, oil seals O rings, bearings and gaskets etc. You`ve just got to make sure the stator bores aren`t scored and the bearing shafts don`t have a groove where the oil seal contacts it.

Not trying to state the obvious but has the oil been changed?
I'm not sure how much difference it would make but was the gas ballast valve open when you tested it?
