    Samaritan

    I need some help
    I have a domestic refrigerator
    Its a Hotpoint
    Single compressor
Twin compartment, bottom freezer, top fridge

The top part, fridge, well the evap coil is embedded within the walls, inside, ie: you cant see it.

And when I touch the panel, its warm!!

This is a simple fridge, no solonoids, nothing.........gas goes firsat into freezer and then into fridge......

    Why is it warm???

I do not normally look into Domestic fridges......at all.
But, it belongs to a guy who is in Jail, and Im helping out his wife.

Well, I DO have a conscience!!!
and Im doing my good deed!!!

    Hi Abe,

The gas goes first into the into the fridge.

    Did you check pressure?
    Is it 134 0r 12?

When the compressor runs, is the discharge feels hot?

    Check and come back please.

    Re: Samaritan

    I went out to it
Of course it doesnt have charge stub, and I dont keep those watsco LT4G type access piercing valves

So I snap off welded stub.............nothing comes out...
Gas inside is 600A which I think is butane..........

If theres pressure then it must be on high side

    I pull a vacuum and charge it with R49 , thats R413B I think.

Charged it till frist line just before compressor

Told them let it run for few days..........
    See what happens.........

and of course whilst Im there they tell me the boiler faulty.........Man of the house in prison for counterfeiting fraud...........

    6 Kids!!!

    Family battling it out.............

Wish i had a second fridge , Id give it to them!!!!

If you just want to get in running and working, heres what to do.

    1 remember R600a is flamable
2 change the drier and cut off as much of the capillary as you can
    3 vac the system
    4 recharge with R134a
5 don`t go by the name plate for the charge, just keep adding it very slowly untill all the evap in both sections is sticky

Ive done this a few times with bottle coolers that were on care 30 and they are still all working today.(maybe not tomorrow but they have still worked so far)
Hope this gets your friend out of a jam.

    Ohh!

    Yikes guys!
If it had a leak it will still have one untill you repair the leak.

Whatever food is stored in the fridge may be worth alot more than the fridge is , and if the fridge fails after afew days (and Im sorry but that looks likely from what youve said) She may be alot worse off because now she still has a faulty fridge only now she has lost afew hundred quid on frozen food.

I doubt this, looks like the family are having a bit of financial trouble.

But you are right if it was sog and not a blockage then the leak must be found.

    Re: Samaritan

Lady called my wife yesterday.........she says everything is working just fine, and is ever so grateful.
She also kindly said.........How much do I owe??

Well, she owes me nothing. I learnt something as well.

I suspect the fridge has a minute / small leak and will take ages and ages to start affecting performance

Its got a charging stub on now anyway so in case it needs a refill

    And the good news

Her husband is going to be released in two months time..
    So everything is looking up!!!

Thx to all you guys for your support, and Chilling , for helping out on this one

May ALL your Lives be BLESSED!!!!!!!

    Re: Samaritan

    Hello Aiyub.

Just wondering if this fridge has hot gas pipes that run around the freezer door. They sometimes leak there.

You can bypass these and fridge will still run.

You may get a bit of moisture forming around the door though.

I have a huge side by side fridge that a customer gave me that had leaking hot pipes bypassed these and its been running trouble free for 4 years now.
