Can a freezer fridge just be a fridge?

I am wondering, can I equalize the temperatures of the freezer section and fridge section in a side by side to anything above freezing? I thought about punching a big hole in between the two, but I'm afraid this might make it one big freezer.

I turned down the thermostat and can't get the freezer above 20F.

I would like to have both sections at about 35F or so.

    Any advice welcome and appreciated.

Won't work. the system is designed to work as a freezer and fridge on one compressor.
Even if you change the stat to another one, you will kill the compressor.

    Hello
I dare to say the experiment may turn out succesfull, only you should put in a new thermostat that will turn on at, let's say, 5C, and turn off at, let's say, 2C.
