Re: UK gallon or US gallon
It depends where the book is written. In the US, most people don't know there are two sizes for the gallon and most books written there are for the domestic market. I would assume US gallon unless otherwise stated.

Re: UK gallon or US gallon
There is many technical literature with I-P units (Imperial).
Ashrae for example have a version no SI units (its I-P units). They use for the volume flow gpm (gallons per minute). On this case are the gallons US or UK?To make progress is never good enough, I want to do better and better and better

Re: UK gallon or US gallon
To be precise, there are two [2] US gallons and one UK gallon:
1 gallon [US, dry] = 0.968 938 978 33 gallon [UK]
1 gallon [US, liquid] = 0.832 674 184 63 gallon [UK]
1 gallon [US, dry] = 4.404 883 8 liter.
1 gallon [US, liquid] = 3.785 411 784 liter.
1 gallon [UK] = 4.546 09 liter.
Which means that you should measure in liter per minute while you are supping a UK pint!

Re: UK gallon or US gallon
In in Ireland a pint is a pint as Frank say's they don't last too long.WTF is a gallon and who cares ? If i went into a boozer and asked for a gallon i'd be told ,take what your given and enjoy it!
But if you prefer shorts ,they're bigger over here(in Ireland)..

Re: UK gallon or US gallon
Yeh, metric became the norm here AFTER i'd just learnt imperial, you know, 2 pints = 1 quart, 4 quarts =1 gallon, 8 pints = 1 gallon. Then the 1 pint milk bottle changed to 600ml. Seems some rounding off happened. Now i use 4.5 litre as one gallon..Mike.

Re: UK gallon or US gallon
At least you don't live next to the elephant. We keep trying to be metric and the Yanks keep pulling us back. The funny thing is that they are officially a metric country and the "official" pound is weighed off against an official "kilo" kept in Paris, I guess. You would never know it, living there.
Litres all the way, I say (but if my beer comes in 500ml cans or pint glasses, I don't care)

Re: UK gallon or US gallon
Well, back to the serious subject:
GPM should be see as US measure since UK literature already uses S.I. units, right? To make progress is never good enough, I want to do better and better and better
