Otter I've had in the UK, yummm, never heard of Tyskie. Peroni must be Italy's biggest beer export as I see it everywhere, bit light for me.

Hi Guys...
Sorry for the delay, but as you know we had our inspection on Friday for the MCS registration and to be honest, it has been taking up ALL of my time trying to prepare.

Good news is that we only failed with 6 NCR's, which will be easy to rectify. 45 working days to rectify so no problem.

I've tried it but it's not my first choice if other local micro brewery products are available.

When I was working down in Gravesend in the early 80's, they had a pub that was right next to the Thames and they used to brew their ale in the cellar. They were quite proud of the beers, but I was convinced that they used to take the water straight out of the river :-) Yuk!!

Most brewery's that have survived the recent 'buy outs' or amalgamation's are large concerns that need to supply their beer nationwide in large quantities to satisfy the shareholders. Profit is paramount and sometimes, quality is sacrificed, whereas the local micro brewery is more concerned with making his beer to a high standard.

I'm an active member of CAMRA and support the local MIcrobrewery wherever possible, as these guys tend to produce some really nice brews.

Sorry to all of you LAGER drinkers. You obviously don't know what you are missing.

Got to say though that I like the odd Guiness and I've never tried Tryskie or what ever it is

My brother in law opened a micro brewery in tottenham last year that is doing really well and he has had nothing but good reviews about it. Has anyone heard of redemption brewing company or even tried any of their ales.
Although they are only sold in and around the London area.
Redemption pale ale and redemption urban dusk are his 2 best sellers.
He's also a member of CAMRA and goes to many of the trade shows.

Have you ever tried Peroni red label? I can only find it in a deli in Broadway but it is very nice.

If you try it you will never be able to drink the standard peroni "fizz" again.

No i've not seen that one, i'll keep an eye open for it in future

I did in the past get slightly ill on a combination on caffreys and jd, and some stella i think... after which i couldn't drink any alcohol for 18 months without being very ill, even just a sip made me feel nauseous, so now i can only have a few of one type of beer without starting to feel ill again.
My local small brewerys would be Wychwood and Hook Norton who still use a horse and cart for deliveries! both do some very nice beers.

I'm not really supposed to drink any alcohol anyway, as a Buddhist we are not allowed any mind altering substances.... No doubt thats why it makes me ill, damn Karma

Picked up a Tyskie but have not tried it yet, it is in bottles so don't know if you get draft or not. My current choice of German beers is Holsten Maibock, very lovely.

Marc, ask if they have sent any Redemption to our side of the pond. I think I heard of it or maybe I just need "redemption"

Wychwoods Hobgobblin not too bad either.

I don't go to pubs anymore (no decent ones around where I live now - not close to any friends to go their with either), no room for home brew, and it's hot and summer, so I drink whatever cheap euro lager mega swill that's ~$30 a case I can find right now.
When it's not so hot I'll go back to light ales like coopers pale ale, when it's cold again back to dark ales and stouts (theakstons and murphys as well as local stouts).
As far as the really good stuff though, the rate of consumption makes it not financially viable. I'd probably be knocking back weihenstephaner or a local craftbrew light ale or lager if money was no object in this heatwave

Cheap local swill used to be $30 a case here, then the micro sold stuff at $50, so the local swill went up to $45, so the micro went up to $60. Then the locals started brewing under licence the popular euro beers and sold them at $50
So the cheapest beer (and better than anything made by the locals), is the unknown brand fully imported euro stuff, or Coopers.
It would be a waste of a coopers serving it ice cold and guzzling it down, so I save them for an ambient I can appreciate them properly, and just buy cheap imported euro lager about $10 a case less than coopers in summer.

Sorry guys I'm with Frank on this one .
Micro breweries especially in the UK have taken over the traditional "local" breweries who have amalgamated and consolidated their crap into better crap.
Then I tend to think of Lager type brews. I call them brews because they're not really beers. We all know that Lager is just far too "wet" and could never be a contestant. At this point I have to stop and aknowledge the Bavarian brews which are without doubt some of the best of the worlds lager type beers. I did once go to a monestery in Bavaria on the banks of the Danube where a dark beer like Guinness was just so wonderful... however, getting back to basics, Yorkshire has probably the most exclusive of excelense when it comes to quality micro breweries. A new boy on the block being Wharfedale Bank Brewery. Such a fine array of quality brews. Slingers being a brilliant bright light IPA type ale at 3.8% is a superb session beer.
Sorry about the rant ..... can only blame it on the "slingers"

When I was in Sydney a few years ago I had the Beez Kneez at a bar near the Opera House. That stuff really hit the spot and was definatly worth pickling a liver for. Can't find anything quite like it back here in England. It's a honey flavoured beer. Some come close but couldn't quite match it.

Now Badger Golden Glory is my beer of choice. I think our 20 month old son has found a liking for it too.
