hi im new to the industry an need some help
ive a question that i need help answering.


Q how is oil encouraged back to the compressor on long lenght vertical suction risers ???


any help would me much apprieciated

By installing oil traps at regular intervals depending on the length of the run.
Basically as the oil fills the trap the passing refrigerant carries it back to the compressor.

Hello Dean. In a basic sense, the refrigderant vapor physically "pushes" the oil along the piping, up the risers and back to the compressor where it belongs. Some refrigerant disolves in the oil making it less viscous and easier to flow. For this mechanism to work, adequate line velocity is important, so proper line sizing etc must be maintained in order to assure good oil return. Also, as Stufus pointed out , a long riser may need to use oil traps to help the oil on its upward journey. Finally, minimizing the oil the leaves in the first place is helpful, thus the use of oil seperater systems etc.
