They may be very good, but be careful with American technical books.
Design and operating paractices differ to the UK, not to mention the widespread mention of Imperial units and the continued reference to ODS gases that have been phased out here.
I was brought up using Imperial, and can do the essential conversions in my head, but it's not a good idea to start using fahrenheit and btu's again in the UK.
Sadly, most of the UK literature is no longer current or in print, so that may be all there is.....

There are lot, Books level of information is different and may be a book is good for an Engineer's view of point but a Tecnician founds it full of math and he founds very few informations regarding his required info, better to see a book your self in a library or at a bookshop before to buy.
I have found these very helpfull for beginners,
Modren Refrigeration ang Air conditioning,
Refrigeration and Air conditioning Technology.

thanks for that information malik.but iam not new to a/c or refrig i have been doing this for 22 years. i am wanting to get the books for apprentices.

yeah I would have to agree with Peter the Principles of refrigeration by Roy Dossat is an oldie but a goodie, dont know where you can get from though
