    Chiller/Heater for Koi pond

Hi, I am from Indonesia and currently making a chiller for cooling a 10.000 liter of water in a koi pond, now to keep the temperature stable I also need a heater for the pond. I have only vague idea about how to calculate how much heating coil needed, and how many watt is needed?
Let's say I need to bring the temperature from 29°C to 32°C...

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

    Hi ysh1317
Watt you need (pun intended, couldn't resist) Q=M SHC TD and 1 Watt = 1 Joule per second.
    10,000kG * 4.2kJ/kGK * 3K = 126,000kJ
To reheat in 1 hour 126,000kJ/(60s*60mins) = 35kW plus losses from ground, evaporation, and heat transfer losses.
Someone will correct me if I am a little rusty and may add the losses.

    Re: Chiller/Heater for Koi pond

Is this thing practical? To cool down the pool? I dont know what type of the pool is it but if it an open pool than with evaporation there will occur the evaporation so you will need to refill the pool with fresh water which is cooler than the water inside. So i don't think that it is a good idea but , i don't have sufficient information and as already mentioned, i don't know what kind of pool it is. More info please

Hi MilosBog I'm glad you asked because until yesterday I had no idea either. A Koi is a type of Carp Fish, colourful and used for ornamental/health purposes to enhance a peaceful tranquility just by looking at them and admiring their beauty. There are many factors which help with their health and size temperature is just one. They are prized in Japan and South Africa but can be found in many countries hence the question about heating/cooling the pool. Some have lived up to 200 years old so a Koi would be a good pet. My old 19yold cat just sleeps 23 of the 24 hours in a day.
