    emigrate to USA

I know this has probably been discussed before, But......

Are there any fridge guys on here who have successfully obtained a visa to work in the US?? If so, how did you go about it?

I know unemployment is high at the moment but, are companies likely to offer sponsorship?

    Thanks

You will be lucky. Why the US in particular?

Have you visited the US before? If not you need to visit and see if its what your looking for. I worked out there in the nineties, and enjoyed it very much. But trying to get a visa or green card, you've more chance of standing in rocking horse sh!t.

Yes i have been there a few times on holiday. I think it would be a great place to settle down, bring up kids etc. How did you get your visa?

I am currently in Bermuda and have lived in Australia before, but i think Australia is a little too far from home (UK).

Make sure your employer covers you really well for health care because as we know, it is the only western country without a universal health care service.

Australia is too far from anywhere! Too far to next town so we use cruise control, too far to the bank, so we use EFT, too far to the backyard, so we use ride on mowers, and its too far to the neighbours house so the spiders camp here. Its o.k. though, we have one of thoes communication thingies, wind the handle around fast for a few seconds, then put the piece with the cord attached to your ear and yell into the box, amazing!

I didn't know you had those in Oz, we still rely on smoke signals and pigeons up here in Yorkshire.

Chilli, smoke signals were getting the fire-brigade curious and spammers were hacking into my smoke account, and Pigeons always on strike for shorter delivery routes and better conditions. Camels are the way to go.

The drink is good and the crack is definitely mighty. Been to Carrick Fergus, Belfast, Rosslare, and Wexford. Got ancestors in Mayo but quite distant.

    Re: emigrate to USA

    Back to the original question.

I know of three people who have done it in the recent past.

Person 1, did it the easy way and married a yank bird. Now lives in West Virginia fitting ductwork.

Person 2, had the $1m dollars (inheritance) to stick in a bank account and fast track himself in. He is split bashing in Florida.

Person 3, Went to California on an Entrepreneurs visa, he had something like 2 years to set up business and employ 10 locals. He now runs a sheet metal fabrication business out there.

    God luck

    Hi Syd.
eggs has the answer in one.
Marry a millionairess form Californa, and go and live with Arnie Sw.,
Or tell the immigration people you are an experienced full body scanner operator and get a position with Home Security.

Yea, but it helps to feed our national insecurity/ superiority over our buddies to the south. And we know Sarah is guarding our western flank as she can see Russia from her doorstep.

    Hi Mikeholm.
we had a couple of cannuks selling petro- C oils here and giving away Canadian beer, cannot remember the name but came in blue cans, probably out of date but was not pleasant.
Oil was good though, they went broke unfortunately.
Any way your place gets nut cracking cold in the winter. Not good. I get annoyed if ambient gets to + 10 'C here in the winter.

Ricards red on draught very nice, the rest is just fizzy lager.

Ohhh we've got much more than the red. The blue cans were Labatt Blue, not one of our finer pilsners.....

Mike H, Excuse my ignorance but... What is needing refrigeration with all that snow over there? And a quote from Magoo.".Any way your place gets nut cracking cold in the winter"... I've no idea how one can survive after watching Ice Pilots! Makes me shiver during a hot day in Australia, mike.

    Re: emigrate to USA

Oh Mike, The hottest I have seen it here in Toronto is about 36c in the summer and 100%RH but usually it averages about 26C for 4-5 months. The coldest so far this winter has been about -21 in the middle of the night with "only" about 2 weeks with temps around -15 during the day. Most of our winters are around 0 to -10.

That said, go to northern Alberta or Winnipeg (after which Winnie the Pooh is named) and you will have 2 months of -40 during Jan and Feb. Now that is a thick glycol mix.

I remember working in a place called Fort Francis, Ontario back in 93 in November and the temp was -45. We worked for 10 days straight in buildings with no heat or windows (yet).

Unlike a place where it is hot all the time, you really appreciate spring when all the thin, white tee shirts come out after being hidden behind bulky sweaters all winter......aaahhhh spring

And BEER. Well what can I say. We have more award winning micro breweries than almost anywhere I can think of and I have traveled all over Europe in search of the best brew. America cannot compete in this department.

Well, there you go. I had no idea there was a summer season ever listed for Canada. Only place i've been thats anything like your winter is a moderate sized warehouse freezer. After 15 mins, extension lead won't straighten out, fingers won't work and the eyes feel like sand is in them. Thanks for the info but no-way will i be over your location any time soon.. Mike.

I say this respectfully......WIMP. I guess the beer and thin white t-shirts cannot compete with a continual summer......oh well, I tried
