    Kobe/FES shaft seal

I've just rebuilt a small FES Kobe. There was a spacer sandwiched between the shaft seal sleeve and the coupler. Some tell me this is important; others say it is unnecessary. Can I just use a split lock coller (like the small Frick's) to prevent the sleeve from sliding out; or am I missing something here.

    Hi Salamander
Not familiar with your type of compressor or the spacer that you decribe.
Sometimes sleeves are used to repair shafts that have been damaged/grooved by wear, overheating etc.
Have you got rebuild instructions ?
You need to check that you've got the correct ammount of compression of the shaft seal.

I believe this spacer keeps the seal assembly firmly seated in the lip seal, so yes it would be important.

CanadianIce is correct, it is important.
It is there to keep the seal seated.
