Building water Chillers running despite low ambients.
Its that time of year again
Where I am starting to see building Water chillers set at anything between say 10c and 6c. running.
Usually fighting the building boilers which are going full blast.
Despite the ambient temperature being below these set points.
Several buildings that I know have BMS systems that inhibit the chillers if the ambient is below 5C.
So the office staff on the top floors cook and want the chiller running to cool down the building.
The other one soon to be evident will be the ice rink in the corner of the ground floor car parks.
Where the VRV'S and VRF'S have on defrost dumped layer upon layer of water. Which has frozen!

Crazy isn't it, i have a site with two chilers that go crazy if the chillers go off even in winter and when you get there, there's no load to even run the damm things (for a/c by the way)

Re: Building water Chillers running despite low ambients.
I asked what the 'steam' was coming from some louvred doors last Thursday or Friday and was told that the chiller was being run-up.
Something they do every week, it is an open drive compressor, so I'm told, so maybe we'll let that one pass.Brian - Newton Abbot, Devon, UK
